An online marketplace for buying and selling, Jumia, has launched a platform in Tanzania called "Jumia University" where students can open virtual shops, acquire knowledge on e-commerce, and boost whatever they want to sell.
The initiative comprises of basics of Jumia, account and shop management, order processing, payment methods, logistics and social media strategy, and an area to receiving in-depth information about the subjects covered.
The virtual shop is already receiving encomium from students. One of them, Thomas Luhanga from the University of Dar es Salaam said:
"This is very beneficial especially to us students because, first of all little investment is needed, you don t need to have a physical shop to run it so this completely eradicates the amount of bills you need to pay and also it gives us students extra income that we really need in order for us to sustain in our daily university life."
Jumia is Tanzania's leading marketplace for everybody to sell their products on the internet.
With the initiative, participating students will have the opportunity to ask any questions about the platform during their visits.
Jumia Virtual Shop is one of the most convenient ways of creating a platform for sellers to skip paying for a shop and buyer having to go very far in search of an item.
When buying or selling on Jumia, you deal with people from your City and from all over Tanzania.
You can buy or sell from fantastic segments like Fashion, Electronics, Jewelry, accessories, books and millions more.
Daily News quoted Head of Marketing, Jumia Tanzania, Mr Angaza Nkurlu, as saying, "We're seeing more and more people who want to take advantage of the Jumia platform, but many of them have no experience in running an online shop.
"Online shopping is less established in Africa and Asia than in many other parts of the world, so we set up these visits as a way of ensuring that all our buyers and sellers can access the tools and knowledge they need to succeed."
How Jumia works: A seller lists an item on Jumia, almost anything from smartphones to laptop accessories, books to home decor.
The seller chooses the Fixed price option, which allows buyers to purchase the item right away at a fixed price. In a Fixed price listing, the first buyer willing to pay the seller's price gets the item.
Jumia is the largest and safest online marketplace for emerging markets. It connects buyers and sellers to allow them to take advantage of the best deals on an extensive range of products including electronics, books, fashion items, gadgets and even cars. Thanks to a fixed price system, Jumia guarantees that users will always find the lowest prices on the market.
Jumia is part of Africa Internet Holding (AIG). AIG introduces and accelerates the online shift in Africa – for its people and its culture. AIG has built up multiple web companies including: Jumia, Zando, Jumia, Hellofood, Lamudi, Carmudi, Jovago and Easy Taxi.
